Downtown Los Angeles has quickly become a foodie destination — and for good reason. From GQ to Bon Appetit, people have come from around the globe to experience the innovative and unique creations from some of the world’s best chefs. And though it can be difficult to navigate the seemingly endless amount of amazing restaurants our city has to offer, Catherine Santiago from our Guest Services team is here to help.
An avid globetrotter, Catherine joined the Level Los Angeles team as our Guest Relations Manager, and brings her passion for travel and discovery to help residents explore the best of DTLA. A self-described fashionista, animal lover, and positive thinker, she’s always looking for new adventures with her dog London. From the Fashion District to the warm weather to the amazing food scene, there are so many reasons she loves this city.
Here are a few of her must-try spots to dine out!
Located just around the block from #levelDTLA, Bottega Louie is one of the busiest spots in Los Angeles. Whether it’s savoury or sweet, breakfast or dinner, the 255-seat restaurant, gourmet market, patisserie, and café is sure to please your palette. However, just make sure to save room for their incredible desserts (the macarons, beignets, and éclairs are a must!).
The Stocking Frame
Located inside an old garment factory, The Stocking Frame offers a laid back atmosphere, an extensive craft beer list, and an eclectic menu designed for sharing. Don’t miss their perfectly cooked pizzas that are crisped in the 900-degree wood-burning oven, the Smoked Lamb Bolognese, or the Pastrami Tacos. Vegetarian? Not to worry, as there are plenty of plant-based dishes like the Crispy Avocado Tacos or Brussel Sprout Hash that will please even the most avid of carnivores.
When craving Japanese fare, you can’t go wrong with Katsuya. Catherine’s current obsessions include the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Wagyu Tenderloin, and the Empire Roll, complete with truffle flakes and flecks of real gold. Thirsty? Try the #BeLegendary, which has Grey Goose Le Lemon, St. Germain, and fresh limejuice, and then topped with champagne.
Taking the #2 spot on L.A. Weekly’s 25 Hottest Restaurants this month, Otium is the grand new project by former French Laundry chef de cuisine Timothy Hollingsworth. Located next to the landmark Broad Museum, Otium offers rustic-style cooking using ingredients sourced locally, or grown in the restaurants’ very own garden. Try it for brunch, lunch, dinner, or order from the On-The-Go menu if you’re in for a busy day of sightseeing or back-to-back meetings.
Though these spots are definitely on her weekly (or daily!) rotation, there are so many other amazing restaurants, cafes, and bakeries she’d love to share with you. Feel free to tweet Catherine at @levelDTLA or visit our Guest Services team to ask which restaurants to put on your radar!
