LEVEL Low Down: 5 Best Wineries to Check Out Around Vancouver

November 17, 2018

Forget what you were told — you don’t have to drive the five hours to the Okanagan Valley just to enjoy BC’s best wine. Langley, a quick day trip outside of Vancouver, is home to some of the top wineries and only a 45-minute drive away from the city. Not to mention, November is the perfect time to take a break from the city and cozy up with a delicious glass of red wine. Scroll through to read our list of the five best wineries to check out around Vancouver.

Township 7

Famous for their Naramata Bench location, guests will be surprised to learn that this winery actually originated in the 7th Township of Langley. Be sure to try out their infamous sparkling Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, opt for one of their food and wine pairing seminars.

Glass House Estate Winery

Glass House Estate’s name pays homage to the family’s 60-year run working in the greenhouse industry in the Netherlands and North America. With a strong selection of reds, this winery is perfect for a visit on a chilly November afternoon. They also offer fun events like Paint & Sip, where you get to work with a resident artist while you enjoy wine and appetizers.

Chaberton Winery

The owners of Chaberton Winery decided to set up shop in Langley as they found the terroir matched that with their experience visiting vineyards in Northern France. Offering over twenty wine variations, they source grapes from the Fraser, Similkameen and Okanagan Valley. You can visit this cozy estate for a tasting and tour, and then take a wine break to have lunch at their new bistro.

Blackwood Lane

A favourite for red wines, the Blackwood Lane Winery has been following the practice of French wine-making for years. Most of their grapes are grown in the Okanagan valley and they age their reds for at least three years or longer. Stop here for a “connoisseur” tasting of reds that includes their signature Bordeaux-style blend.

Krause Berry Farms and Winery

This Langley winery doubles as a berry farm, market, bakery, restaurant and cooking school, so depending on your mood you can choose from a number of events and activities. Stock up on everything, from fresh berries and veggies to pies and homemade ice cream at the Market and then head over to the winery for a tasting. Not your typical winery, Krause also offers a number of concoctions like their wine-a-ritas, sangria and wine floats that can be paired with their signature pizzas and food selection.
