Celebration of Light

Starting on July 29th, Japan kicks off the festival, followed by the UK on August 2nd, and Canada on August 5th. To celebrate Canada 150, this year each team must incorporate an iconic Canadian song into the show. From classics like Bryan Adams’ Summer of ‘69 to Top 40 hits like Justin Bieber’s Where Are You Now, the winner will be chosen through public votes on the Honda Celebration of Light’s Facebook page.

While English Bay is the closest vantage point, you’ll want to get there early as it’s also the busiest. If you prefer a less crowded spot, watch from Second Beach where you’ll have a partially obstructed view of the lower fireworks, or enjoy an unobstructed view from Kitsilano or Vanier Park. In addition to these free spots, there will be ticketed venues offering panoramic views, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and plenty of comfortable seating. From The Keg Lounge and The Concord Lounge, to family-friendly bleachers at the YVR Observation Deck and the YVR Business Class Cabanas, buy tickets here to reserve a prime spot.

Celebration of Music

Each afternoon before the fireworks show, the festivities begin with some of BC’s best musical talent. With a stage at both Second Beach and The Keg Lounge, the performances lead as an segue into the evening. In addition to musical performances, the festival will host entertainment for everyone. The Family Zone at Second Beach will include a bouncy castle, face paint, and plenty of games. On each Saturday at 7:45, look to the sky to see veteran pilot John Mrazek and his son Richard put on an unforgettable aerobatic airshow.

Celebration of Food

Since there’s no doubt you’ll work up an appetite, food trucks will be set up at both English Bay and Second Beach, while hot and cold meals will be available inside ticketed venues. Local stalls like Japadog, Whistler Pizza, and I Love Chickpea are just a few of the options you’ll have to choose from when hunger strikes.
