Staff Spotlight: Janice Flack

July 10, 2017

This week, we’re bringing you a special Staff Spotlight edition of the LEVEL blog, where you get a chance to meet some of the people who keep LEVEL up and running. With over 60 associates working with us, there are a lot of stories to tell!

Today we are introducing Janice Flack, who joined the team in the spring of 2016.

Where are you from?
I was born right here in Vancouver, and grew up on the North Shore.

What is a typical day at work like?
Every day at LEVEL is different! I normally would anticipate check in’s or check outs, and facilitate any requests or needs guests may have during their stay. I also provide recommendations on places to visit in Vancouver.

What is the best part of your job?
I love that at LEVEL we get to connect with our guests on a personal LEVEL. Our guests are often here for months at a time, and we get to see them on a daily basis. I love getting to meet new people, and learn about what brings them to Vancouver, and I hope to make their experience here a little bit more enjoyable.

What has been your most memorable moment or experience working at LEVEL?
Most recently we had a young husky named Mishka who was a bit of an escape artist. She was smart and strong enough to open our heavy doors and we would find her casually cruising the hallway. She happened to escape her suite on Father’s Day while her owner was out for the day, and after numerous attempts to place her back in her room, it was clear Mishka just wanted to keep me company at the desk. It was nice to have a furry friend for the day and guests loved her!

What is your favourite thing about LEVEL Van?
LEVEL is in the perfect location to visit Vancouver because it’s less than a 30-minute walk to almost anywhere in downtown. Vancouver is incredible because you can be on the top of a mountain and in less than an hour be laying on the beach. LEVEL is perfectly situated to reach some of the best beaches, parks, shopping, and even mountains in Vancouver.

What is your favourite restaurant in the area?
I’m a big fan of Happy Hour so I’ll often go over to The Flying Pig, The Parlour, or Wild Tale for some delicious cocktails and small plates to share.

Where is your favourite place to grab coffee?
When I want a good coffee I always go to Revolver in Gastown. I can always expect a great espresso from roasters across North America. If you have a chance to go, you should definitely try one of their delicious baked goods!

What is your favourite way to relax and unwind?
I’m very lucky to live in such a beautiful city. I’ll often grab a friend and a coffee and walk in one of North Shore’s beautiful parks or trails, or try and catch some sun on one of the quieter beaches. I love going down to Deep Cove for a Honey’s donut, or to Crema in West Van and enjoying a macchiato and the beautiful view of the ocean and Stanley Park.
