An evening spent wining and dining with friends is essential to a great weekend. And while Yaletown is home to several of Vancouver’s best restaurants and lounges, nothing quite compares to hosting guests in the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re hosting in your furnished apartment, or using our indoor or outdoor lounge space, we’re sharing some of our best entertaining tips to ensure a seamless and memorable evening.
Set Up A DIY Drink Station
Everyone loves personalizing things, so custom drink bars are always a hit. Whether it’s a make your own caesar station or a gin cocktail bar, stock up on different garnishes so guests can create their own concoction. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to have wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options too!
Prepare Food Ahead Of Time
Depending what kind of food you’ll be serving, always prepare what you can ahead of time. If it’s going to be appetizers and nick-nacks, have a few ready before guests arrive, but make sure to save some for later. It’s a good idea to put a tray in the oven when guests arrive to guarantee the food will be hot.
If you’ll be serving hor d’oeuvres followed by a main, have the hor d’oeuvres ready right away. It’s fine if you’re still cooking the main while people arrive as it creates a laid back vibe and gives guests a chance to mingle. Don’t overthink it – sometimes a simple recipe prepared ahead is the best way to go. After all, the most important part is enjoying your guests’ company!
Set The Tone
When you welcome people into your home, it’s your job to make them feel comfortable and relaxed. Set the tone with music, have drinks and appies ready, and show them you’re happy to have them, not stressed. If a hostess is scrambling, it will only make guests feel uncomfortable and in the way.
Get Creative With Your Place Cards
It doesn’t have to be fancy, but having place cards is always a fun added touch. Especially when you get creative. Instead of just writing someone’s name, write a fun fact about them. It’s a sure-fire way to spark interesting conversation and help guests get to know each other.
Decorate To Impress
From fresh flowers to table settings and centrepieces, beautiful decor always brings a dinner party together. Set the mood with dim lighting and candles throughout to create a warm ambiance. Special occasion? Whether it’s Canada Day, a birthday, or a Tiki party, themed decor is always a nice touch.
